North Beach Restaurant Intro

We walk everywhere, yet never risk getting skinny.

Tomasso's - Best pizza in town from the anchovy to the even the spinach, proscuitto calzone is a cheese lover's dream, best tiramisu I've ever had.

The House - Probably the best food in the 'Beach. Pork w/ wasabi noodles, an order of salmon rolls, and the unagi are my go-to. But, *everything* on the menu is excellent.

Pasta Popup - Best Italian for the money in the neighborhood. Osso bucco with house made pasta for under $20. Can’t go wrong with any of their dishes.

Italian Homemade - The other decent past for the money around here, but more of a take-away place.

Okoze - Technically Russian Hill, but my favorite sushi in the City. Sit at the bar and go Omakase style, but be sure to a side-by-side tasting of the different uni and toro they’ll usually have in stock.

Park Tavern - Hip dining with prices to match, but legendary deviled eggs. The fries are the best in the neighborhood (with a caviar-topped soft-boiled egg for dipping) and the lemon chips with burrata are somewhat mind blowing. They also have a build-your-own-spritz menu, and the McLaren is a great happy hour cocktail deal.

Il Polliao - Simple but perfect chicken. Delicious. Nothing more to say.

Tacolicious - Hipster tacos, bought in bulk. Decent happy hour specials though - a taco, Tecate, and tequila plus a “Holy Trinity” of beans, guac, snd queso for under $20. Tuna tostadas Contramar are worth the extra couple dollars though.

Pete’s - Good pub fare including Chubby Noodle’s chicken and a great mac’n’cheese.

Original Joe’s - Old school fare w/ the classics including stiff martinis, excellent sweetbreads (order them w/ the piccata sauce on the side), and a glorious twice-baked potato.

Ideale - A good Italian date restaurant. Proscuitto and melon, caesar w/ (extra) anchovies, and the tortellini carbonara.

Contadina - The other great date-worthy Italian restaurant. Never had anything bad there, but their carlesimo is downright excellent.

North Beach Restaurant - Fancy Italian restaurant where city hall dines. A bit overpriced, but the only other place in the 'Beach w/ sweetbreads on the menu…and Warren at the front will take care of you!

Il Polliao - Super simple menu w/ the best roasted chicken in the city. Order potatoes as well and let them soak in the butter.

Molinari's - Best deli in the city. Renzo (w/ bell peppers) & the Luciano are my fave sandwiches. the stuffed olives and asiago salad are also great…like everything else they stock.

Tony's - Gluten-free pizza for the glutards. The coccoli (Italian beef or prosciutto) is also spectacular. The barcelona isn't traditional, but it is my fave pizza here.

*The slice house on the side has italian beef sandwiches (wet, w/ cheese…and a side of horseradish spread, if they have it) that seem like an entire side of beef on a roll and the stromboli is the hot-pocket of the gods.

Il Casaro - Another pizza place in North Beach, but still a standout with really good Neopolitan-style pies. Their namesake pizza is simple, but excellent.

Sodini's - Heavier, family style Italian. Really good spinach.

Mo's - Essential diner with possibly the best big, juicy burgers in the City. Serves breakfast until 3p.

Mama's - One of the best breakfasts in the city and a great monte cristo, but generally not worth the hour+ wait in line on the street.

Coi - Never actually been, but let me know when you're buying b/c it's one of the best restaurants in the city? :)

15 Romolo - Fancy bar food and the best mixed drinks in the 'Beach.

La Trappe - Good belgian food w/ frijtes, mussels, and an excellent beer list w/ occasional Russian River beers on tap.

Don Pistos - Upscale Mexican and the best tortilla soup I've ever had.

Chubby Noodle - The chubby chicken w/ sambal sauce are the chicken nuggets they likely serve in Heaven. The short rib is also great.

Yuet Lee - Greasy spoon Chinese, but the best salt-and-pepper squid (aka calamari) in the city.

Golden Star - Technically Chinatown, but the best pho I've had around here.

Urban Curry - Americanized Indian. Basic chicken tikka masala (medium) and the saag dishes are good and the best naan around when you order it w/ extra cheese.

Golden Boy - Always smells better than it tastes, but good quick filler if you're out drinking.

Buster's - Great cheesesteaks and chili cheese fries for when you're feeling unhealthy. If you want to seem healthy, order the california (w/ mushrooms...and bacon).

Pizzelle - Stripper slices and about the only place to get hawaiian pizza. Throw in some dry wings to really hate yourself.

Sam's - The double cheeseburger is a drunken Anthony Bourdain favorite. Again, throw in dry wings when you've given up and want to die.

Alimento - Half and half is four dollars and ketchup is five. But, the sandwiches are fantastic if the line at Molinari is too long. Don't buy dessert.

Souvla - Not in North Beach, but they deliver via Caviar! Lamb gyro with the garlic tzitziki and frozen greek yogurt topped w/ baklava (or sour cherries) is worth the delivery fee.

Oasis - Okay, not in North Beach either, but the best spicy chicken shawarma around if you find yourself near one of their locations.
